How to create blockbuster aviation & skydive action scenes?

It’s when you do something the audience can’t believe, something that seems  impossible or where the possibility of death is blatantly obvious that you will hold the audiences in a moment you create.

There is a simple formula to follow.

Research is the best place to start… There are so many feature films that have scenes involving, aircraft, people falling from them and parachutes.

Examples include: Top Gun, Point Break, James Bond and Iron Man 3 barrel of monkeys scene.

To create movie scenes that triggers the audience excitement starts with  delivering easily recognisable images similar to what they have seen  in their favourite action movie flick.

This is the start of the positive psychological response due to a positive experience they remember. The trick then is to build on this experience by then being surprising and bewildering by something remarkable that they haven’t seen .

The magic is using the right film equipment, props and latest operational methodology that has evolved over time. Looking at a lot of film involving aviation, people falling from great heights and parachutes, in many cases the way they are shot is the same.

Below is a list of key elements and resources needed to develop aviation scenes that have never been seen before.

3 Things to think about when using Visual Effects (VFX) in aviation film.

The most important consideration in action adventure film making is not blurrng the line between animation and Visual effects (VFX). Creating illusions or enhancing visual elements through real stunt performance will excite and captivate your audience instead of leaving them feeling underwhelmed. Unless they have a reference point, even the best film makers cannot imagine or conjure in their minds how to portray a spectacle without testing what to would look like in real life. Even if the end product is heavily built around CGI and VFX, it is the physical effects which visual design is based on.

Entertaining audiences by creating exciting & believable content.

Don’t fake skydiving and aviation scenes.

Audiences know what is real and what is not. To make them stop and watch, do something unexpected and make them intrigued about what will happen next.

Use of Visual effects & computer generated imagery.

VFX and CGI can play an important role in creating visually spectacular content. However without using components of actual free-fall, parachuting or other elements of aviation, what people see may not look right.
